Many organizations, especially within the intelligence community, users require access to various networks on different security domains. Traditionally, this operating environment requires the procurement and installation of numerous printers for each network at each office location. This adds an enormous cost to the IT budget in terms of the procurement of printers, network infrastructure and the ongoing care and feeding of this set of resources. The XD-1000 provides your organization with the ability to have one set of printers (e.g., color and black/white) servicing not only a group of users, but also serving multiple networks. The OWP capability enables printing of files using the bulk file transfer mode of the XD-1000 appliance. There are two implementation options for OWP. Each XD-1000 appliance can service one set of networks (i.e., an originating network and destination network). The XD-1000 administrator configures the appliance as a print server using the web-based system administration tool. On the originating network, a list of printers are defined and made available to the users of that network. On the destination network side of the XD-1000, the printer name from the originating network is translated to the address of the printer on the destination network. Another implementation option of the OWP capability allows users to submit print jobs to their local XD-1000 print server. As the print job is routed from the originating network to the destination network, the user’s identity is also transferred. Once the print file arrives on the destination network, an active directory lookup on that network reveals the user’s default printer. The XD-1000 then sends the print job to the user’s default printer.
